July – How to Keep Your Skin Looking Younger

Although we can be proactive and utilize spa services to reverse the signs of aging on our skin, there are also health and lifestyle changes we can make that will also help slow down the aging process. Here are 4 habits we should try to avoid because they can make your skin look damaged and older.

1. Cigarette smoke – Being a smoker or just being exposed to smoke significantly increases skin wrinkles and dryness. It depletes your body of vitamin C, which is a key ingredient of keeping skin plump and moist.

2. Sun Exposure – Sun exposure is extremely aging to the skin. If you are a “sun worshiper” your skin will eventually start to take on a dry leathery appearance, with wrinkles and sagging increasing as you age. So how can we still look tan without all the damage to our skin?

If being in the sun is unavoidable – make sure you use sunscreen with SPF of 15 or higher- even on cloudy days. Or choose our indoor spray tan service that gives you the look of a beautiful tan without the sun damage. It usually lasts 7-10 days.

3. Lack of sleep – Some of us need more sleep than others but when we don’t get enough, we not only feel tired, but our skin looks it too. One of the first places it shows is on the face, with dark circles and bags under your eyes, and saggy skin in general. Research shows that most of us function best with at least 8 hours sleep each night. To help achieve that, try to reduce your caffeine intake (especially in the evening). Avoid eating at least 2 hours before bedtime, and try to create a sleep pattern of going to bed about the same time every night

4. Stress – Did you know that stress and worry cause frowning, and over time the muscles in the face can conform to that? To help reduce the aging of the skin due to stress – try to vary and relax your facial expressions during the day using simple exercises. Take a moment to distress by taking a deep breathe – then let it out slowly to relax your whole body. You can also take a walk or do some light exercise to work it off.  A good workout at the gym does it for me.

While the aging process is inevitable, there is a lot we can do to look our best at any age. Taking care of ourselves is the most important step. In our anti-aging skin program.(Both in what we do and don’t do). Come and visit Joan or Tracy this month and let them pamper you with this month’s spa specials. After all……. Aren’t you worth it ?
